The OECD Global Science Forum has initiated a new activity on very large research infrastructures (VLRIs).The objective of this activity is to provide options for facilitating the development, operation and use of VLRIs, to make these more responsive to global crisis or major disciplinary shifts, and to provide long-term perspectives for their development worldwide to decision-makers.

The final product of this activity will be a policy report that will include a forward-looking analysis of challenges policy makers will face, as well as potential good practices that could be employed in different contexts to facilitate initial planning, discussions around potential investments, and operational management of these extremely ambitious projects. It is also expected the lessons learned will be applicable to a broader set of facilities. This second workshop of the activity (following a first workshop in June focused on the governance and management of VLRIs) will adress more specifically financing and policy strategies of RI funders and decision-makers and discuss potential policy recommendations related to VLRIs towards relevant stakeholders.
